We refer to our dog as our furry child; she's definitely part of our family! We adopted Lacy last August from a local rescue group called Pick of the Litter. They rescue dogs and cats from kill shelters, and provide foster homes for them while searching for a "forever home." I had a great experience in adopting from them, so if you are in Georgia and looking for a furry family member, please visit their website. If you are in another area, Pet Finder is great! You can search based on your area, breed of dog or cat, age of pet, and so on. I actually found Pick of the Litter through Pet Finder. Here's Lacy on her 1st day home (she was 6 months old):
I'm cracking up at Lacy playing with her basketball right now, pouncing on it to make it go flying, and then chasing it. Now she's trying to get her tennis ball out from behind the guitar without getting in trouble. Sometimes she noses the guitar strings to make her own little music. She's a nutty dog with LOADS of personality, and a fondness for chewing sticks, chasing bugs in the yard, and RUNNING REALLY FAST! She destroys any dog toy that isn't a BALL (I don't think she can get a good enough grip!) or a super-duper Nylabone, but she's learned to leave everything else alone ... mostly! There was that time she chewed through the cord on the Dyson vacuum, and she likes to sneak doll clothes out of Kathryn's room! But she is such a sweet girl, and SO smart! We've taught her some pretty cool tricks. One of the coolest is when she jumps through the hoop of Ken's arms! She is bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN! (And sometimes the spinning Tazmanian devil!)
Lacy is a mutt: part greyhound, and part who-knows-what! I love mutts! They are typically much healthier, not prone to weird personality traits of specific breeds, and they are completely unique! I've never bought a dog; they have all been rescues, some from rescue groups and some that a relative found lost or abandoned. I have so many sad-but-happy-ending stories to tell about dogs in my extended family, but that would be WAY too long a post! The short version is, WE LOVE DOGS! My aunt Culline recently adopted these two adorable little Yorkie-Pomeranian accidental mutts (please spay & neuter your pets! There are way too many put to sleep every year because there are more dogs and cats than there are homes!).
Culline is in town, and stopped by yesterday on the way in so that Kathryn could meet these sweet pups! Here is another great picture Ken took of one of the puppies biting my uncle's shoelace. They're SO cute - but she still hasn't named them!
