Awestruck we fall to our knees and we humbly proclaim,
You are amazing God...
Incomparable, Unchangeable,
You see the depths of my heart and You love me the same.
You are amazing God.
You are amazing God...
Incomparable, Unchangeable,
You see the depths of my heart and You love me the same.
You are amazing God.
We're doing a study in our Sunday school class called Elevate; it's about ten markers of spiritual growth. Nobody will be on exactly the same "elevation" because we are all at different points in our spiritual journey, but we should all be striving to always keep climbing, never to go back. And along the way, we can help others in their climb, like rock-climbers help each other up the face of a steep mountain (not that I would know about rock climbing from PERSONAL experience!!).
This week's marker is "Worship as a lifestyle." Here's what worship should be (and I quote my Sunday school teacher here): "Our response, both personal and corporate, to God for who He is and what he has done, expressed in how we live our lives." Just take a minute to really think about that (I'll wait right here for you)...
Worship at church on Sunday is great, and we should participate in corporate worship. But every single moment of our lives should be spent worshipping and praising God not only for all our blessings, but for WHO HE IS, even when our circumstances stink. And that worship and praise ought to come out in ALL we do.
We ALL worship something, even those who don't claim to know God or follow Christ. At the beginning of class, we watched a clip of some Micheal Jackson fans in Japan at the pinnacle of his career. It was really sad to think that those people chose him as their object of worship. But what also struck me as sad is that we don't act that way about our Savior!!! Our God is, as the song says, "Indescribable, uncontainable... all powerful, untame-able...incomparable, unchangeable!" That kind of God deserves our whole-hearted worship!
Think about that last verse in the song at the beginning of this post; He sees the depth of my heart, and He loves me the same. WOW. God knows all the dark and dirty, cobweb-infested parts of my heart, mind, and soul. I can't hide anything from Him. And yet, He loves me! And even better than that, He loves me SO much that he can't possibly ever love me any more than He does RIGHT NOW. Even if you don't believe in Him or trust in Him, He can't possibly ever love you more than He does right NOW! He already loves you and me more than our little human brains can even fathom. And THAT is the best news ever.
"Therefore... I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God." Romans 12:1-2
