Happy Birthday, USA!

Happy birthday to our great nation! I found a great post over on Leann's blog, where she shares from a book of daily prayers from the U.S. Senate from back in the 1940's. Go on over there to read the whole thing, but here is an exerpt from the prayer said on the Senate floor on July 3, 1947:


"God of our Fathers, whose Almighty hand hath made and preserved our Nation, grant that our people may understand what it is they celebrate . . .

May it ever be understood that our liberty is under God and can be found nowhere else. May our faith be something that is not merely stamped upon our coins, but expressed in our lives . . .

To the extent that America honors Thee, wilt Thou bless America, and keep her true as Thou has kept her free, and make her good as Thou hast made her rich. Amen."


Let's not forget today that this is a nation founded upon the belief in God, and remember that ours is, as quoted in that prayer, the only nation begun "for the glory of God and the advancement of the Christian faith."
