Our nature study this week was sort of an introduction to weather: specifically the various types of precipitation, and the water cycle. We enjoyed the video links in Outdoor Challenge #39. Besides watching those fun clips, we also read a section in The Handbook of Nature Study. The snowflake photos were Kathryn's favorite part, and she wants to figure out how we can do that, too. A pretty big challenge considering how infrequently we get snow here in Georgia, so we'd definitely have to be ready at a moment's notice!
We did experience a few different forms of precipitation here this week. Monday brought a mixture of snow flurries and sleet, and Thursday brought a consistent rainy drizzle all day. We used that day to get out and experience the precipitation first hand. Kathryn is always thrilled for a chance to use her umbrella, but since it wasn't a heavy rain, she also caught a few rain drops on her tongue and in her hand.
For Kathryn's nature journal entry, she wrote about what she had learned, and embellished the page with drawings of rain and snowflakes. She made sure those snowflakes all had six rays, like the photos in the book. Here's what she wrote:

We got rain, snow (flurries), and sleet!
When it rains (or snows), the water finds a river, and the river finds the ocean. The ocean then partly evaporates into the sky. And then it rains once more. The rain is recycled!"
